Every real flame brings the same two problems: something has to burn, and something gets hot. You need flame without fire. If you’re after the look and movement of a living fire with nothing burning and nothing hot, the Optimyst RGB 500 is built for exactly that. Choose a screen-based electric instead and you get a picture of a fire; this one fills the space with flame and smoke you’d swear were real. What Makes It Special The flame is water. A fine mist rises off the tray, lit from below, and moves like real flame and real smoke—but every surface stays cool to the touch , so it can sit inches from people, upholstery, or a television. Nothing burns and nothing vents; it runs on ordinary water and electricity. Then there’s the color. Pick from five flame colors —aquamarine, blue, violet, orange, and red—or mix any color you want from the app, so the fire can be classic orange on a winter night and something else entirely when company’s over. It’s also built for design work. Multiple cassettes connect in a line for a fire as long as the wall, included spacers adjust the flame width and pattern, and an optional plumbing kit ties it to a water line so it runs continuously—with an overflow sensor that shuts the water off to prevent leaks. Possible Downsides • It makes no heat. If you want warmth with your fire, look at a heat-producing electric or gas unit. • The ember bed is not included. The tray ships empty; glass, rocks, crystals, and log sets are separate options. • Moving air disturbs the flame. Like a candle, it shouldn’t sit near drafts, vents, or ceiling fans.
