So it runs when guests are over and sits dark the rest of the year. You need an electric fire that reads as real from across the room. If you’re finishing a wall where a chimney or gas line was never in the picture and you still want the fire to be the focal point, the Revillusion Black 42 is the one. A standard electric box gives you a picture of a fire; this one gives you flames rising through logs cut from real wood. What Makes It Special Instead of playing a flame video on a mirror at the back of the box, the Revillusion effect throws its fire across a partially frosted acrylic panel in the middle of the firebox. The flames appear to rise from inside the logs , and you can see through them to the full depth of the black backer—the flat, reflected look that gives most electric fires away is gone. The logs themselves are handcrafted from real wood, with inner LED lights that pulse like a settling bed of coals. The fire and the heat run separately. Flame only for a summer evening, flame and heat when it turns cold: the fan-forced heater warms up to 1,000 square feet on demand, and the Mood-Maker remote lets you set the flame color and intensity to match the evening instead of living with one factory look. Possible Downsides • Black is the only backer on this model —Herringbone, Neutral Brick, and Weathered Concrete are separate versions of the same firebox. • No heat in a power outage —the flame and the heater both run on electricity. If you want an electric fire people have to look at twice before they believe it, the Revillusion Black 42 is the right decision. The room it’s in becomes the room the house lives in.
